Who We Are

The Grid Modernization Advisory Council (GMAC) is a stakeholder group committed to advancing a cleaner, more affordable, equitable, and resilient electric grid. It was established by the 2022 Climate Law, “An Act Driving Clean Energy and Offshore Wind”.

The GMAC provides feedback and recommendations to the electric-distribution companies (also known as utility companies) on how to improve their electric-sector modernization plans (ESMPs) to update the grid, pursuant to G.L. c. 164, §§ 92B-92C. This group hosts regular public meetings to discuss and collaborate on solutions to transform our electric distribution system to meet our energy demand in the clean energy transition.

The GMAC is an 18-member stakeholder advisory group that represents diverse organizations and interests, including policymakers, low-income consumers, environmental advocates, renewable energy developers, electric utilities, and more. Meetings are led by the Department of Energy Resources (DOER), and support for meeting materials is provided by an external consultant.
